Mieszcząca się w kanadyjskiej prowincji Alberta firma Champion Petfoods oświadczyła, że wycofuje się z australijskiego rynku, po ty, jak wykonane przez amerykańskie laboratorium niezależne testy przeznaczonych dla kotów pokarmów marki Orijen wykazały, że niebezpiecznie wysoki poziom napromieniowania, na który zezwala rząd Australii, jest odpowiedzialny za epidemię poważnych chorób u australijskich kotów.

Jedynymi napromieniowywanymi produktami przeznaczonymi do spożycia przez człowieka w Australii są importowane zioła i przyprawy korzenne, które napromieniowuje się dawkami wynoszącymi od 10 do 30 kGy, oraz tropikalne owoce napromieniowywane dawkami do 1 kGy.
